SANDWICH — Although about 350,000 women served with the military during World War II, few share their stories. Mildred Walters, 90, of Sandwich is one of those women.
Sandwich VFW Commander Bob Scholl, left, introduced Bob Wright, local State Farm Insurance agent, to the VFW membership at their monthly meeting. Wright said he had heard about the project to restore the cannon and donated $500 to the project. Donations for the project are being accepted at VFW Post 1486, 713 S. Main St., Sandwich, IL 60548.

PLANO — Motorcycle riders freely admit they don't need much of an excuse to ride. But the Leon Burson Post 395 American Legion Riders (ALR) in Plano are providing an excuse on Saturday, May 18.
Sandwich American Legion Brown-Miller Post 181 is raffling a Henry Golden Boy .22 caliber rifle to support its operation and the Boys State program. The post will sell only 150 tickets, at $20 each, with the drawing on July 6. For information, call the post at 815-786-4095.
