New Life for Old Bags

North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Kite Fest

Noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at Milestone Park, 1375 N. Castle St. Free event will feature concessions, music and the aerial displays of professional kite flyers. Bring your own kite to join the fun.

“Celebrate America”

VFW Rib Dinner

4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1486, 713 S. Main St. The dinner will include a rack of ribs, potato salad, baked beans, applesauce, roll and dessert. Tickets cost $15. Carry-outs available. Open to the public. The American Legion Auxiliary will also be selling baked goods. Proceeds support various VFW projects.
