Youth Summer Reading Activities

Charles B. Phillips Library, 6 N. Jackson St., will be packed with fun activities for the kids all week including Storytime Monday on June 11 at 10 a.m., Lion Pillow craft on Tuesday, June 12, at 1 p.m., and Movie on Wednesday, June 13, at 1 p.m. featuring “Khumba.”

Cowboy & Hero: The life
of John Wayne

6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Charles B. Phillips Library, 6 N. Jackson St. Historian Jim Gibbons will explore John Wayne’s life, rise to fame, Western roles and devastating death.

New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month – next, June 9 – at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Take Flight

Dog Days of Summer

Knit and Crochet Group

Free Movie for Kids

Breakfast Buffet

8 to 11 a.m. the third Sunday of the month – next, June 17 – at the Plano American Legion Post 395, 510 E. Dearborn St. Sons of the American Legion will serve the all-you-can-eat meal featuring scrambled eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon, pancakes and made-to-order omelets. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for ages 11 and younger.

Summer Reading Kickoff Party

11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Sandwich Public Library, 925 S. Main St. Register for the Summer Reading program and enjoy free food, a bounce house, an exotic petting zoo, touch-a-truck and more. Also, guests can meet the new director and discuss future goals of the library.

Pork Chop Dinner Buffet

4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Sandwich VFW, 713 S. Main St. Tickets cost $12 for two pork chops, baked beans, coleslaw, applesauce, roll and dessert ($10 for one pork chop). Stone Mill Museum Hours

1 to 4 p.m. Sundays at the Stone Mill Museum, 315 E. Railroad St. The museum is filled with is filled with local memorabilia, settings of rooms with antique furniture, farm tools and items that were manufactured locally. Members of the Sandwich Historical Society act as hosts, guiding visitors to areas of special interest. No admission, however donations are appreciated.
