5:15 p.m. reception, 6 p.m. dinner Tuesday, April 17, at Grandma’s Table Restaurant, 1700 Douglas Road. Dinner includes a choice of three entrées (fish, chicken or beef), soup or salad, dinner rolls, vegetables, dessert and nonalcoholic drink. Cost is $20. A lower cost salad entrée can be purchased for $12. The speaker will be Larry Olson, who will present “CSI Chicago: My 33 Years of Tracking Down Criminals at the IRS National Forensic Laboratory.”

Fundraiser

5:30 to 6:45 p.m. taco bar, 7 p.m. show Saturday, April 14, at Helmar Lutheran Church, 11935 Lisbon Road. Tim Hannig uses laughter, illusions and music to entertain and inspire. Helmar Hearts and Hands for Hope will use the money raised to build two houses for families in need in Tijuana, Mexico. P.E.O. Garage Sale

8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21, at Meadowlands Farm, 13890 County Line Road. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. This is a huge indoor sale with many individuals participating.

New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month – next, April 14 – at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Pork Chop Dinner Buffet

6 p.m. Saturday, April 14, United Methodist Church of Plano, 219 N. Hale St. Dine-in only. Menu includes boneless pork chop, au gratin potatoes, green beans, corn, coleslaw, salad and dessert. Plano High School’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Civil War Encampment

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and Sunday, April 15, at James Knights Park, 1001 N. Latham St. This free event is hosted by the Sandwich Park District. See the soldiers’ tents, and weapons, how their meals were cooked, and what items were carried in a knapsack as the 10th Illinois Regiment brings history to life. Each volunteer from the 10th Illinois Regiment portrays a soldier from this area that enlisted during the Civil War time period.

Pork Loin Dinner

4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1486, 713 S. Main St. in Sandwich. Menu includes pork loin roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, applesauce, roll and dessert. Desserts provided by the VFW Auxiliary. Tickets cost $12. Carry-outs available.

Sandwich High School Presents ‘The Secret Garden’
