On Feb. 1, Leland School held its annual science fair for seventh- and eighth-graders. Jacque Davy, an eighth-grader, won first place with “Which Soda Affects Gas Production?,” Julia Winckler, an eighth-grader, won second place with “Temperature vs. Solar Power” and Alex Todd, a seventh-grader, won third place with “Which Solvent Prevents Apples from Browning?” Honorable mentions went to eighth-graders Brynn Guelde, Jack Kramer and Lucas Serby. Students in Christian Wimber’s class at Somonauk High School gave a special award to Julia Winckler for her superb work on her project's data collection and analysis. The top three winners will now compete at the regional science fair at Northern Illinois University on March 24.
