Dale Hamilton, retired Sandwich School District Board member, presented information on Sandwich School District 430’s upcoming life-safety bond referendum during the Rotary Club of Sandwich’s Feb. 12 meeting at Timber Creek Inn & Suites in Sandwich.

The referendum question that will appear on the upcoming ballot reads:

“Shall the debt service extension base under the Property Tax Extension Law for Sandwich Community Unit School District Number 430, DeKalb, LaSalle and Kendall Counties, Illinois, for payment of principal and interest on limited bonds be increased from $86,897.45 to $786,897.45 for the 2017 levy year and all subsequent levy years, such debt service extension base to be increased each year by the lesser of 5 percent or the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index during the 12-month calendar year preceding the levy year?”

The Sandwich Rotary Club members were assured that no tax increase over current levels would occur with the passage of this referendum. The school district is seeking the passage of this referendum to comply with state life-safety mandates.

The Rotary Club of Sandwich is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser to raise money for scholarships assisting students in Sandwich and Somonauk schools. The event will feature live music and will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. March 16 at Timber Creek Inn & Suites.
