Mothers Offering Mutual Support (MOMS)

New Life for Old Bags

10:30 a.m. to noon the second Saturday of each month – next, Jan. 13 – at the Plano Community Library, 15 W. North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Open Roads ABATE

6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Plano American Legion, 510 E. Dearborn St., Plano. Topics to be discussed are the chili cook-off, pool tournament, book run, group rides and updates on the legislature. Everyone is invited. The meeting will be followed by the chapter Christmas party. Members with last names beginning A through I are asked to bring salads, J through Q are asked to bring appetizers, and R through Z are asked to bring a dessert. New Year’s Day Hike

10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 1, at Hoover Forest Preserve 11285 Fox Road. Participants will hike for 90 minutes to two hours and learn about wild life, edible plants and identification of native plants. Dress appropriately for the weather and for hiking. Meet in the parking lot. Admission is three cans of soup.
