The Sandwich Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1486 and its auxiliary have announced the winners for this year’s Patriot’s Pen contest. They are Alijah M. Campbell, first place; Lauren G. Fifield, second place; and Kaylee Swickert, third place.

Patriot’s Pen is a written essay contest open to all sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students. This VFW-sponsored youth essay competition is conducted nationwide and gives students an opportunity to write an essay expressing their views on an annual patriotic theme. Over 12,000 students participated last year.

"The members of VFW Post 1486 and its auxiliary wish to thank the students and teachers of Sandwich Middle School who helped to make this program a success," said a news release from the VFW.
