Taste of St. Mary’s

Noon Saturday, Aug. 5, at St. Mary School grounds, 817 N. Center St. The event will feature a variety of foods including hot dogs, hamburguers, corn on the cob, lemon shake-ups, tacos and desserts. New Life for Old Bags

North St. Volunteers turn discarded plastic shopping bags into plastic yarn to be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Donations of plastic bags can be left at the library. Cornerstone Church Food Pantry

An Evening with Elizabeth Berg

DeKalb County Barn Tour

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at barn sites throughout DeKalb County. Participants will receive a map and guide book containing hand-drawn sketches of each barn and its history, style and use. Participants will drive to each location, in any order, for a guided tour of the barns. Cost is $25 per vehicle. American Legion Fish Fries

5 to 7:30 p.m. Fridays at the Sheridan American Legion Post 729, 300 W. Si Johnson Ave. The fish fry includes a choice of catfish or cod, fried or poached, with fries, hush puppies and a complete salad bar for $9.
