Fourth of July Parade, Celebration and Fireworks

Monday, July 3, and Tuesday, July 4, in Leland. The annual Steak Fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Leland Lions Club Pavilion will kick off the celebration. Tickets cost $17 in advance or $20 at the door. The “Celebrate America” 5K run for adults and 1K run for children begins at 8 a.m. July 4. The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Leland School. A vintage baseball game between the Leland 66ers and the Somonauk Blue Stockings will begin at 3 p.m. Vendors and food trucks will start selling at 4 p.m. Col. Blaze in the City

Saturday, July 1, in downtown Sandwich. Following the parade at 10 a.m., the fire department will host 5B's pork chop and chicken dine-in and drive-thru from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Adult meals cost $12 and kids' hot dog meals for ages 5 and younger cost $4. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling SFD at 815-786-9241 or at the event. Car and bike show registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon, with the show following from noon to 3 p.m. Awards announced between 2 and 3 p.m. Kids' water fights from noon to 1 p.m. The adult water fights will follow.

Freedom Run 5K, 1-mile and Tot Trot

Sunday, July 2, at James Knights Park, 1001 Latham St. Sponsored by the Sandwich Park District, the Tot Trot begins at 7:45 a.m., the Fun Run/Walk at 8 a.m. and the 5K at 8:30 a.m. The Tot Trot is free for ages 5 and younger. The fee for the Fun Run/Walk is $22 and the 5K fee is $28. Competitors can wear their best patriotic costume; prizes will be awarded. 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8, at the Kendall County Fairgrounds, 10826 Route 71. Gates open at 4 p.m. Eight events include bareback riding, cowgirls barrel racing and bull riding. For those who come early, there will be family-friendly clowns, kids’ games, local food and drinks. Whiskey Romance will perform from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday.
