Tommy’s Gift from the United Methodist Church of Plano enhanced the quality of life of special needs and physically disabled residents from the Open Door Rehabilitation Center by building a 30-by-30-foot state-of-the-art, fully accessible backyard retreat at the residents' home.

The design of this raised deck dramatically increases the outdoor living space and accessibility for the residents, many of whom are wheelchair users, and will allow them to freely spend time outdoors in a safe and controlled environment. Builders also added a pergola, which offers a shaded area to protect the residents from the sun.

"Tommy’s Gift is proud to help these residents and bring them more independence and joy and let them know that they are cared for and supported by the community," said a news release from the group.
