The Somonauk Fire Department has placed File of Life packets around town for citizens to fill out vital information and place on their refrigerator in the event of an emergency.

The Somonauk Fire Department has begun distributing File of Life packets to the community.

The File of Life program is a free service facilitated by the department. It consists of individual magnet slip pouches that contain an information form to be filled out by citizens and placed on their refrigerator. The form contains questions on medical history, emergency contacts, medications, allergies, blood type, etc. It also comes with a sticker to be placed in a visible spot that first responders can see in the event of an emergency.

Having this in place will give first responders instant knowledge of a person's medical history and allow them to give corrective treatment more promptly. This program will not only be time-saving, but can potentially be life-saving. This data also will be carried on when a person is transported to the hospital and they will continue to receive more efficient treatment.

Somonauk Fire has placed packets around town at the following establishments: Bud’s Citgo, Casey’s, Dollar General, Heartland Bank, Resource Bank, AHW, Rex Agency and the Somonauk Post Office.

If you’re unable to obtain a File of Life packet from any of these locations, call the Somonauk Fire Department at 815-498-2300 or email jcolford@somonaukfire.com.
