Published: Saturday, April 15, 2017 5:30 a.m. CDT

Area school children will have a opportunity to learn about the Civil War when there’s an encampment for school groups only on Friday, April 21, at Knights Park in Sandwich.

On Saturday, April 22, and Sunday, April 23, the encampment will be open to the public. Knights Park is at 1001 N. Latham St.

The 10th Illinois Regiment’s re-enactment group will be in uniform, portraying lives of Civil War soldiers while in camp. The living conditions, weaponry, food preparation and other activities will be enacted throughout the weekend.

Those wishing to bring school groups on Friday, April 21, are to call the park district, 815-786-8044, to make an appointment as soon as possible for the groups because space is limited.

The event is free to everyone. It is sponsored by the 10th Illinois Regiment, the Sandwich Historical Society and the Sandwich Park District.
