Letter of thanks to the community

Published: Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 3:44 p.m. CST

On behalf of the Sandwich Lions Club and the hundreds of individuals and families who benefited from the 2012 Franklin Mall Christmas Project, I would like to express sincere thanks for the overwhelming community support that has kept this project going for nearly 60 years. Your support comes in the form of monetary donations; nonperishable food, household product, cookie and candy donations; and the unselfish gifts of your time and energy.

Businesses, churches, schools, organizations, families and individuals of all ages play an important role. The United Church of Sandwich donates the use of its building for the packing of cheer boxes. Our local schools (administrators, staff and students alike) get involved. Scouts and 4-H groups provide hands-on help. Concerts and theater performances benefit the cause. Moms and dads bring their young children and teens to pack groceries and/or cheer boxes. The Sandwich Fire Department not only offers the use of its building for several weeks for storing, sorting, packing and delivery of groceries, but department personnel volunteer countless hours of help with all of the above tasks. A very special thank you is due the IVVC fire science classes and instructor, Jason Pruski. This group devotes most of the final week before their Christmas break to sorting and organizing the collected groceries as a community service project. They are learning the meaning of serving their community.

Although the Sandwich Lions Club administers the Franklin Mall Christmas Project, it really belongs to the entire community – you make it happen! Thank you!
