The DeKalb County Marine Corps League gives a big thank you, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of the residents of Plano, Sandwich, Newark, Millbrook, Somonauk, Leland, Earlville, Hinkley, Waterman, Serena and surrounding areas. Because of your generosity to our Toys for Tots program this year, more than 578 local children each received two toys and a stuffed animal for Christmas. These needy children were from our neighborhoods.

An extra thank you goes to our Santa’s helpers, the merchants who helped collect and make those donations. They are: in Sandwich, Sandwich Fire Department, For Kids Only, Knuckle Hedz, Castle Bank, Centrue Bank, Heartland Bank on 34, Heartland Bank on Gletty Road, Walgreens, Swanson’s Realty, Dojo Dynamics, Derailed, Hoadley’s Hallmark, NB&T Bank, Earthmovers Credit Union, the VFW and Ultimate Health & Fitness; in Somonauk, Heartland Bank, Bud’s Citgo, Doug’s Barber Shop, Somonauk Fire Department, The Country Kitchen Restaurant and Rambo’s; in Plano, Fox-Little Rock Fire District Stations 1 and 3, Centrue Bank, Heartland Bank, Old Second Bank, Casey’s, Rural King, Plano BP, Castle Bank and the American Legion; in Leland, Maddies and NB&T; in Waterman, Waterman State Bank and the First State Bank; in Earlville, The National Bank of Earlville; in Hinkley, Resource Bank and the Fifth Third Bank; in Serena, NB&T; in Newark, Heartland Bank; in Millbrook, Fox-Little Rock Fire District Station 2 and Heartland Bank; and in Shabbona, First State Bank.

Last but not least, this newspaper for all of their assistance in letting you know when and where to donate and/or pick up the toys.

As a side note, all cash donations are used locally to purchase items for age groups that had few or no items. Everything donated in our area is given to those who need it in our area.

An extra 450 toys were taken to the DeKalb Salvation Army for distribution by Toys for Tots for the remainder of the county by the DeKalb County Marine Corps League. Countywide, a total of 7,554 toys, books and stocking stuffers were distributed this year. That was 2,567 children who had a Merry Christmas because of Toys for Tots and your generous donations.

Thank you, God bless, and Semper Fidelis from all of us in the DeKalb County Marine Corps League.

On behalf of the Marine Corps League,
