One of downtown Plano's newer additions is Happy Hounds, 10 E. Main St. Visit www.lorashappyhounds.com, find Happy Hounds Plano on Facebook or call 630-552-9654. The store is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and closed on Sunday.

PLANO — Looking to get away from Yorkville road construction that would bring Illinois Route 47 nearly to her front door, Lora Bendik moved her Happy Hounds to Plano.

Oh, and she moved her store cats – Whispurr, who stays in the background, and Purr-casso, the official store greeter.

“And I love the feel of the downtown area,” she said. “I looked at other places in Yorkville, but I just like the down home, neighborly feel here because we’re more like friends than a business.”

Happy Hounds opened at 10 E. Main St. in Plano on Nov. 1 without missing a beat, Bendik said. Most of her long-time customers and friends have found her and she’s meeting new ones every day.

In business for herself for about eight years, Bendik said she has been a dog groomer for about 30 years. She employs a second groomer, Anita Leinard, who has nearly 25 years of experience.

She has more cats, three dogs and several birds at home. Bendik said she has fostered cats for Spay Illinois.

Along with dog grooming services – they don’t groom cats – Happy Hounds teaches that what a pet consumes is critical to his or her health and well-being. According to the store’s website, “In a pet food industry which allows sawdust and rendered meats to be included in AFFCO approved foods, Happy Hounds is proud to only feature foods made with healthy, human-grade ingredients, including fresh meats, fruits and vegetables, on which your pet will thrive.”

The store carries American Natural Premium, Cloud Star, Evangers, Fromm, Great Life Dr. E’s formula, Nature’s Logic NurtiSource, Orijen cat food, Petcurean, Pure Vita dog and cat, Stella and Chewy’s raw diet and Weruva.

“Don’t see what you’re looking for? We can order it,” Bendik said.

The retail store also offers a variety of healthy treats and accessories for the furry family members.
