Volunteers make a difference

AURORA - It doesn’t always “take a village” to make things happen in this world. Sometimes just a couple of kind-hearted individuals can make a huge difference.

Take John and Laverne Wittman, for instance. Since 2006, they have volunteered at Rachel’s Place, a program of Fox Valley Older Adult Services, in Aurora. Their years of dedicated service have included picking up and delivering donations from Panera Bread each month.

John is an Allstate agent in Downers Grove. Recently when the Allstate Foundation was looking for nonprofits to provide foundation money to, John recommended Rachel’s Place. It was approved for a grant of $1,000 from the foundation.

“We are grateful for John and Laverne for all they do for us, and for the generosity of Allstate Insurance and their support,” said Connie Mork, program director.

Rachel’s Place provides adult day service for seniors challenged with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or physical disabilities or those who are socially isolated.

For more information about Rachel’s Place and the services it provides, contact Mork at 630-896-9022.
