Candidate spring filing deadline extended

The candidate filing period for April’s local elections has been extended from 5 p.m. Dec. 24 to 5 p.m. Dec. 26.

Gov. Pat Quinn signed a law Sunday extending the filing period, DeKalb County Clerk John Acardo said in a news release. Dec. 24 is a holiday for county employees, so offices will be closed Dec. 24 and 25, Acardo said.

Candidates that would file at the county office can do so from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 17 to 21; from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 22; and from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 26. For more information, call the Elections Office at 815-895-7147 or see www.votedekalb.com.

Additionally, Northville Township Clerk Linda Swanson said she will be in the Northville Township Hall, 2689 N. 45th Road, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 and from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26 to accept nomination petitions for people seeking to run for a township office in the April 2013 election. For more information about Northville Township, call Swanson at 815-498-3416.

Acardo encouraged local candidates to contact the local unit of government for which they are seeking office to determine the dates and times they can submit their paperwork between Dec. 17 and Dec. 26.
