Author talks historic baseball
SUGAR GROVE – Author Gary Moore will talk about his book, “Playing with the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, World World II and the Long Journey Home,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 in the Academic and Professional Center of Waubonsee Community College’s Sugar Grove Campus, Illinois Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. This event is free and open to the public.
A true-life tale, “Playing with the Enemy” centers on Moore’s father Gene, whose career with the Brooklyn Dodgers was cut short by World War II. But Gene took his love of baseball into the Navy with him, eventually teaching German prisoners of war to play the game and finding
some personal redemption in the process.
The book was named the 2006 Military Writers Society of America Book of the Year and is being made into a major motion picture.
