The revenue from tourist purchases helps fund things like education, health care, public safety and social services. Tourism also employs an estimated 288,700 people making it one of the state’s largest employers.

The convention and visitors bureau message to policy makers at the state and local levels was to continue investing in those things that attract the estimated 86.4 million visitors to Illinois each year. Make travel convenient, encourage businesses to provide reasons for people to stop and visit, enhance natural and historic attractions, and create recreational and entertainment events.
