DeKalb County Update

by Jeff Metzger

We had a chance to meet with two representatives from our Lobbyists Marc Associates, at our July 8th Executive Committee meeting. Mr. Dustin McDonald, Senior Legislative associate and Mr. Dan Maldonado CEO spent a great deal of time detailing priority projects related to DeKalb County. One of the projects they have begun to work on is flood mediation.

They also explained how the lobbying process works in Washington. I asked that the lobbyists work directly with our Executive Committee keeping the County Administration and County Board current on projects as they progress. I also suggested that they utilize local expertise, to further support our proposed projects in Washington.

Mr. Maldonado explained that the appropriation process used to be hidden, but now a lot of it is a very open process and very partisan. A few projects they have worked on recently are affordable housing issues, issues related with Public Health, and climate changing issues.

SENIORS SUPPLEMENTAL REQUESTS

I am a member of the County Health and Human Services Committee, and we received two supplemental requests for funding appropriated from the Senior Services Levy. One request was from Fox Valley Older Adults Services in the amount of $3420.00, is for two projects related to DeKalb location. The amount of $3020 to build-out the center for additional space, and the balance of $400 for new signage.

The second request came from Elder Care Services Agency for the amount of $9317.80 to update computer equipment. The hardware involves a new server, transfer of data files, and installation of new anti-virus software along with a UPS. We recommended both requests for approval, and the full board unanimously approved the requests.
