Local talent headed to New York

On Sunday, April 24, Somonauk was honored to have a producer and talent scout from New York come to town. Broadway Star Dance Company hosted the 90-minute seminar titled "Young Dreams: Fears, Hopes and Fantasies of Fame." Peter Sklar, Ed. M. Harvard University and producer of the new Broadway musical, "The Kid Who Played the Palace," gave a learning and scouting opportunity for all those in attendance. Sklar has coached and/or discovered a variety of talented performers, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Reese Witherspoon, Mischa Barton and Zachary Ty Brian. Following the seminar, Sklar gave interviews to those present who were interested. The following students were chosen to attend the workshop "New Beginnings" in New York: Tori Kissel, Lauren Birsa, Candace Sherrill, Kaitlin Quinn, Meaghan Willette, Tim Fletcher and Mekenah Merrill. They will be flying to New York in late August to attend the workshop. They will receive training from actors, actresses, vocal coaches, casting directors in the field of acting, singing and dancing. The last day of the workshop, they will be in an off-Broadway musical.
