Somonauk grad doing well in NCAA
Jason Smith can hardly believe it. The 2007 Somonauk grad has met college coaches like Bo Ryan and Bruce Weber. But Smith mostly interacts with Baylor head men's basketball coach Scott Drew.
Blue Stockings Schedule
The vintage base ball team from Somonauk is playing more home games this half of the season.
Freedom Days appeared successful
The Freedom Days Festival appeared to be a huge success! The crowd was larger than ever, or so I am told by the many folks that have attended for years. It's a bit of a blur to me but I remember seeing the start of people coming right after the parade and thinking "this is it...it's time" and the next thing I know I look up, and am totally amazed by the mass of people...thinking "where did they all come from so quickly".

Special Feature
DeKalb County Update
DeKalb County Board Chairwoman Ruth Anne Tobias presented her State of the County address, as we began our monthly board meeting. I originally saw her presentation on May 30 at the Metro West Council of Government State of the Counties Luncheon.
At the May 30 luncheon, we heard presentations from each county board chair from DeKalb, Kendall, and Kane reporting on issues related to their county. Comparing positive topics, along with issues we each struggle with, demonstrated some of the same concerns like stormwater runoff and groundwater availability. Tobias reported that DeKalb County finances are in good shape, and that the county is economically growing at a balanced rate.
